Permitting and Inspections Manager – Chief Building Official (South Carolina – Remote)

Position Description
Under limited supervision, performs duties related to the examination of building plans, civil site plans, and related documents of industrial, commercial, and residential structures submitted to client-communities for compliance with all applicable codes, and the supervision of the Building, Inspections, and Permit technical staff.

Work involves providing technical expertise in the review and approval of construction plans and complex job interpretations; and coordinating plan review and permit processing activities with other departments and divisions, as well as supervising and assisting in training Inspectors and Permit technical staff. Reports to the Director of Southeast Operations.


Qualifications
Requires ten years’ experience in engineering, architecture, inspections, working as a contractor or superintendent of construction; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred and may substitute for up to four years of required experience. Computer and wireless device skills are required, and a sense of familiarity should be displayed. Must possess a valid state driver’s license.

Must possess and maintain all residential and commercial plan reviewer certifications as required by law. Must possess & maintain a Certified Building Official certification in the State of South Carolina. Experience managing personnel and operations in a local government building department is highly desired.

Work involves providing technical expertise in the review and approval of construction plans and complex job interpretations; and coordinating plan review and permit processing activities with other departments and divisions, as well as supervising and assisting in training Inspectors and Permit technical staff. Reports to the Director of Southeast Operations.
